In 1997 Shawna, a young, self taught artist, knew that drawing and painting would be her life’s work. Her country studio then became a reality, built in the back yard of her parent’s home, where she was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. Nestled behind a small grove of spruce trees, its quaint cottage appearance, with a cozy loft and unique design, made Spruce Bough Studio a pleasant birth place for an endless number of pictures and unusual nature crafts.

Shawna completely changed her life when she married and moved to Arlington, Texas in December of 2005. Her studio may remain in Canada, but one thing will never change; her love for art and wildlife. Birds and North American wildlife, in general, take up most of her time, many of which are taken from her own nature photos. One of her other favorite subjects is children, all of which are drawn from photographs she’s gathered over the years. She’s expanded her subjects to western and ranch life and commissions are still a specialty, taken from your favorite photo albums. Shawna’s art is created in several different media: pencil, pen & ink, watercolor and pastels, but most of her recent work is in colored pencil. If some of her work has been mistaken for photographs, it’s only because of her relentless pursuit of exacting detail.
